Important information on new EU rules on chemical labelling
Did you know that the EU has updated the rules for the classification and labelling of chemical substances under the CLP Regulation? The new technical adaptation, ATP22, means that more than 40 substances and groups of substances have new or changed classification and labelling in the EU. This affects how chemical products, mixtures and substances are labelled when they are sold or used in the EU.
The Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation is the EU's common framework for communicating the hazards of chemicals through classification, labelling and packaging. When a substance receives a new or amended classification in Annex VI of CLP, it means that you as a supplier must ensure that your labelling meets the new requirements.
You must apply the amending regulation from 1 May 2026. Until then, there is a transition period, but it is good to start planning now.

What do the changes mean in practice?
You need to update the classification and labelling of products containing substances on the updated list. This applies to both individual substances and mixtures containing them. You can find the list here. Being up to date and planning well in advance for changes is important to avoid delays in production or distribution and to ensure that your labelling is legal, clear and accurate.
