Collinder Explains: Engraved signs
Mr Collinder explains is our easy-to-read guide where we share knowledge about our product ranges in a clear and simple way. We cover the basics of signage, labelling and safety to make it easier for you to order the right products for your needs.

What is an engraved sign?
In engraved sign has text or symbols engraved into the material, resulting in a clear and durable sign. At Collinder, we use two methods: laser and milling engraving. Laser engraving means that the message is engraved into the surface of the material with a laser beam. Milling engraving mechanically engraves the text and symbol into the material, which can then be colour-filled for increased legibility.
Engraved plastic signs
Plastic signs are often the first choice when you want an affordable solution. They work well both indoors and outdoors, but the material can become brittle with prolonged outdoor exposure. As standard, our plastic signs come with double-sided adhesive tape on the back for easy installation, but they are also available with holes for screwing them up. The plastic signs have a standard thickness of 1.6 mm and are available with rounded corners and any colour.
Engraved metal signs
Choose our metal signs when the environment is harsher or when the signs need to stay in place for a long time. They are available in aluminium, acid-proof steel and brass, with a standard thickness of 1.0 mm. Engraving can be done with both laser and traditional milling engraving.
Milling engraving is the most durable method and is done with a milling depth of 0.3 mm. We normally colour-fill with black hammer lacquer, but you can also choose other colours. Even if the colour wears off over time, the text remains clear and legible because it is milled directly into the material.
Did you know that?
We can also engrave on most padlocks? For optimal clarity and ease of use, we recommend that you supplement your engraved padlock with an engraved key tag.

Which material should we choose?
Plastic is the right choice when you want a flexible and affordable sign with easy installation, especially for indoor use or less exposed environments. Metal is the right choice when you want your signs to withstand harsher climates, abrasion or chemicals over a long period of time.
