Rebo labelling machines

Labelling machines & Label printers

Clear labelling is an important part of a well-functioning work environment. In everyday life, everything from components and cables to storage locations and machines needs to be labelled to make the information easily accessible and understandable. With the help of labelling machines and label printers, labelling can be done quickly and consistently, saving time and money while improving traceability and increasing safety.

In this episode of Collinder Explains, we take a closer look at labelling machines and label printers, focusing on their function and use.

What is a labelling machine?

In labelling machine is used to create small runs of unique labels or stickers on unsized material. This means that the labels are fed onto a running material instead of being printed on ready-made label formats. The machine can be either handheld or stationary and is often used for labelling equipment, installations and components. In smaller models, both the ribbon and the material are integrated in the same cassette, making handling easy. Handheld labellers usually have both a keyboard and software built into the machine or are controlled via an app, while desktop labellers are connected to a computer. There, labelling is designed and customised via software, such as Loftware, which provides great flexibility for customised labelling in any form.

What is a label printer?

In label printer prints labels with text, symbols or variable information on sized material that is either pre-printed or unprinted. Label printers are mainly used to label products and packaging in large volumes and are often linked to ERP systems or production workflows where the printouts are generated automatically. The result is clear, consistent labels that contribute to order, traceability and efficient handling.

At Collinder we offer a complete labelling solution. We sell label printers, ribbons and software and manufacture labels in our own production facility in Lomma, which means that we can provide technical support and recommend solutions adapted to the equipment, material and application.

Similarities and differences

Both labelling machines and label printers create clear and durable labels, but the difference lies in their different applications. Labellers are great when you need flexible on-site labelling in different environments and when you need to print unique labels on materials that are not sized. Label printers are a good choice when you need to handle larger volumes and when you print on sized materials. Both machines contribute to better organisation, traceability and a smoother working environment.

Did you know that?

In case of any problems, our service and support department is available to provide fast and competent assistance. Cases are handled directly from our head office in Lomma, which ensures short lead times without unnecessary waiting times. Our goal is for you to feel confident in your investment and get a solution that works in everyday life, even after the machine is in place.

Different printing methods

When labels and stickers are printed, one of two thermal techniques is usually used. Thermal transfer melts ink from a ribbon onto the label, resulting in longer-lasting prints that can withstand sun, water, chemicals and wear and tear. Direct thermal is another method that instead heats a heat-sensitive label stock, allowing text to appear directly on the label without a ribbon. Direct thermal works well for short-lived labels such as receipts, shipping and picking labels.

Labelling machines always use thermal transfer, while label printers work with both thermal transfer and direct thermal. When choosing a material, consider how long the label will be legible and where it will be applied. For occasional use, direct thermal is often sufficient, but for more demanding environments, thermal transfer is the better choice.

Should we invest in our own machines/printers?

With your own labelling machines and label printers, you have full control over your labelling. You can quickly create labels and stickers on the spot, customised to your specific needs. This saves time and resources, especially in environments where labelling is frequently changed or updated.

If you do not need to own your own machine or printer, you can order ready-made labels and stickers from us at Collinder. We can supply both standard labels and customised solutions depending on your needs. We produce labels in various materials, adapted to the environments where they will be used. Our labels maintain the right quality and standard regardless of whether your labelling takes place indoors, outdoors or in more demanding environments.

Labelling accessories

What accessories do we need?

If you invest in your own printers or machines, you will need software to design labels and associated drivers. You will also need to add consumables such as labelling tapes or labels. For thermal transfer, you will also need colour ribbons. For portable machines, batteries or chargers are necessary and sometimes cleaning kits, an extra knife or print head, and a dispenser or applicator may also be needed. At Collinder we can help you put together a starter kit with labelling accessories customised to your environment, so you can get started without hassle.
