Experts in pipe labelling since 1972

Correct pipe labelling is essential for a safe working environment. Clear labelling of pipelines reduces the risk of errors, facilitates maintenance and contributes to faster and safer work in both industrial and building environments.

At Collinder Märksystem we have pipe labelling has been at the centre of our business since its inception in 1972. With long experience and practical solutions for all environments, we have built up solid expertise in the field. At the same time, we are always curious and driven to develop our range to be able to offer even better and more sustainable solutions as needs change. This means that we can help with labelling for all types of pipes.

In this article, we look at the different types of pipe labelling and the environments in which they are best suited.

Pipe labelling tapes

Pipe marking tape is a flexible and cost-effective solution for labelling pipes. The tape is wrapped directly around the pipe and attached by overlapping and sticking the material together. To clearly indicate the contents of the pipe, the tapes are available in several different colours. In Sweden, pipe labelling is based on AFS:2023 and SS:741, but at Collinder we can also produce pipe marking tape according to other standards, such as ISO or DIN. We offer three different types of pipe labelling tape:

Flo-Code Original is an affordable option that is suitable for indoor environments. The tapes have transparent arrow windows where you place the desired text. The text is printed on loose text labels that are protected behind the window. This makes the solution particularly suitable in facilities with many different variables.

Flo-Code Standard is pre-printed pipe labelling tape with the most common media texts printed directly into the flow arrows. Adapted for indoor environments, the tape is designed with every other text upside down, while the arrows always point in the same direction. This means that you can easily mount the tape according to the direction of flow and still get a clear labelling regardless of which way the pipe is read. It is a convenient option for standard installations, in environments where labelling is rarely updated.

Flo-Code Free text gives you complete freedom in labelling. When ordering, you specify any text that we print directly on the tape. The tape can also be supplemented with, for example, logos or QR codes and is suitable when you want to include unique designations, multiple languages or special requirements on your tapes. Flo-Code Fritext is available in several qualities for indoor and outdoor use and extreme environments. The tape comes with every other text upside down and the arrows always pointing in the same direction, allowing you to easily mount the tape according to the direction of flow.

Did you know that?

In the last five years, we have delivered over 18 miles of green Flo-Code Original tape! We are experts in pipe labelling and there is not a single pipe we cannot label.

GHS tapes

GHS tapes is used to label pipes containing harmful or dangerous substances. The aim is to quickly and clearly indicate the nature of the hazard so that anyone in the environment can act safely and correctly. The tapes are labelled with pre-printed hazard pictograms according to the GHS system, which is an international standard for chemical classification. This makes the labelling easy to understand, even for people who do not work with the plant on a daily basis.

GHS tapes are particularly suitable for chemical and industrial environments where clear risk communication is essential. In operations where hazardous chemicals are handled, it is a legal requirement to use GHS labelling according to current regulations, which makes correct labelling an important part of the work environment management. Labelling contributes to increased safety during operation, maintenance and service, as well as in the event of emergencies. To work in different environments, the tapes are available in several material qualities adapted for indoor use, outdoor use and external conditions. It is possible to have several hazard pictograms on the same roll, placed either in the classic diamond format or in a horizontal row, depending on what best suits your facility.

Pipe signalling

Pipe signs are often used in environments where traditional tape or decals are not durable enough. They are particularly suitable for demanding outdoor environments, but also for pipes that are dirty, hot or have a surface where self-adhesive labelling does not adhere optimally.

At Collinder there are tube signs in several materials, including plastic, aluminium and acid-proof steel. This makes it possible to choose a solution that suits both the environment and the conditions of the pipes. The signs can be ordered both as a ready-made standard and as customised variants adapted to your facility and your brand requirements.

To ensure longevity, the signs have UV protection to prevent scratching and fading over time. Flow direction arrows can either be printed directly onto the sign at the time of ordering, or mounted on site with self-adhesive decals. This provides flexibility in installation and makes it easier to adapt the labelling to changes in the plant.

For stable and secure installation, we also offer installation accessories such as rubber strips, steel straps on rolls and cable ties. With the right fastening device adapted to the pipe dimension and environment, you get a durable solution that stays in place over time.

Flo-Code Print and Flo-Code Vent

Flo-Code Print is a printer solution that allows you to produce your own pipe marking tape directly from your workplace. By investing in your own printer, you can print the labelling based on current needs, in the right quantity and at the right time. This reduces both waiting times and unnecessary waste. The solution is particularly suitable in environments where labelling changes over time, for example during service work, renovations or ongoing additions. With the Flo-Code Print you have full control over the labelling and can easily adapt it to your site conditions. With the Flo-Code Printer, you can print both classic pipe labelling tape, as well as pictogram tape and text and arrow tape. You can also customise the labelling according to your needs, for example with your logo or QR codes.

Flo-Code Vent is based on the same principle, but is specifically designed for labelling ventilation pipes and ducts. You can simply stick the stickers on the ventilation duct or screw them on.

Flo-Code Print and Vent meets the requirements of SS 741 and AMA VVS & Kyla 22 and provides a clear, standardised marking that facilitates operation and maintenance.

Other pipe labelling

In addition to our standard solutions, we offer several complementary options for specific applications. Flo-Code Medical is designed for clear and accurate labelling of medical gases in healthcare environments. Text and arrow tape is used for easy labelling of pipe contents and flow direction, for example during service or temporary installations. We also offer compressed air labelling, which ensures quick and clear identification of compressed air systems. For fire protection and sprinkler systems, there is Flo-Code Sprinkler, a solution adapted for labelling sprinkler and fire protection systems according to current requirements.
