Different types of pipe marking tape

Pipe marking tape is a flexible and cost-effective solution for clearly labelling pipes and wires. The tape is easily wrapped around the pipe and attached by overlapping, making installation quick and easy. We offer three different types of pipe marking tape to suit different needs and applications.

All variants comply with the Swedish standard, AFS:2023 SS741. We can also manufacture tapes according to other standards, such as ISO or DIN.

Standard
Pre-printed pipe labelling tape with the most common media texts directly in the flow arrow. A convenient choice for standard installations.

Original
A flexible solution with transparent windows where you place text labels yourself. Suitable for facilities with many variables.

Free text
Customised pipe marking tape where you choose the text, language and content. Possibility to include logos or QR codes. Suitable when you have specific requirements or need unique labelling.

Why is it important to label pipes correctly?

Clear pipe labelling is essential for safe and efficient operation. The right labelling helps you to:

  • Quickly identify pipe contents and reduce the risk of mishandling
  • Preventing accidents through clear information on dangerous substances
  • Facilitate maintenance, service and troubleshooting
  • Create better structure and overview in the facility
  • Ensure that you fulfil applicable standards and requirements
  • Improve traceability throughout the system

Labelling colours according to Swedish standard

Sweden uses a standard, SS741, for pipe labelling. The standard includes a recommended colour coding. The standard helps to quickly identify the contents of pipes and reduce the risk of errors.

Here is an overview of the Swedish standard for pipe labelling:

Installing pipe marking tape with the Roger Berg method

A convenient and practical method for installing pipe labelling. It makes the work easy to perform and provides a reliable result that lasts over time.

1. measure and prepare
Start by measuring out how long a strip of pipe marking you need. Make sure it is long enough to overlap. Cut the strip and check the measurement again to ensure the correct length.

2. make a mark
Fold the tape at the point where the overlap is to be made. The fold serves as a marker when you are going to install the tape.

3. lift the liner
Carefully pull the liner away from the front of the fold and fold it backwards. Leave the rest of the backing paper in place - this will help you keep control during assembly.

4. Assemble around the pipe
Stick the pipe marking tape around the pipe with the backing paper still in place. Only the first part, up to the fold, should be sticky. Tighten the tape around the pipe and attach it to itself.

Alternative method for extra stability

On vertical or shaky pipes, the labelling can sometimes be displaced. In such cases, we recommend this method:

1. measure and cut the strip as before. Fold the protective paper down completely at the edge.

2. Fold down the baking paper on the opposite side about 3-4 cm.

3. Start by attaching the sticky centimetres directly to the tube. Leave the rest of the baking paper in place.

4. Then stick the other sticky side to the labelling itself.

In this way, the tape is stable with a small part stuck directly to the pipe. If the labelling needs to be removed, it is easy as only a small area is stuck to the pipe.
